Homa Bay, Kenya: The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission failed to conduct a repeat election for the Gwassi ward representative seat.
This failed to take place in the ward within Homa Bay County on Monday even after the electoral body discovered there were mistakes on the ballot paper on March 4.
IEBC chairman Issack Hassan had ordered a repeat of the election but on Monday, Suba Returning Officer Kahura Kanua said after realising that there were no complaints that arose from the hiccups, they continued with the exercise on polling day.
“We proceeded with the election and completed it the very day (March 4) and sent the results to the commission. We did this after being sure that the election could proceed well in spite of the hitch which had occurred on the photos,” Kanua said.
On the county representative ballot paper, there was a mix-up in photographs of two candidates.
On Monday, the Returning Officer said the exercise could not be repeated since they were waiting for the directive of the commissioners after giving them the election results.
“I’m waiting for the directive of the commissioners since I had sent to them the result of the election,” Kanua added.
