Wednesday March 27, 2013 - FormerTurkana Central MP Ekwe Ethuro candidature for the Speaker of Senate got a huge boost on Wednesday, after reports indicated that URP chairman Francis Ole Kaparo has stepped down on his favour.
Sources indicated that Kaparo bowed out of the race after intense negotiations presided by President –elect Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto at a retreat in Naivasha.
President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta and Ruto are said to have sealed a deal to have Justin Muturi elected National Assembly Speaker while Ekwe Ethuro of URP goes for the Senate.
Abdikadir Mohammed, who played a key role in overseeing the implementation of the Constitution, withdrew from the race on Tuesday after a meeting with President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta at Great Rift Valley Lodge in Naivasha.
Sources said Abdikadir was promised a Cabinet position after he stepped down for Muturi, who is a close ally of Uhuru Kenyatta.
