Wednesday March 20, 2013 - With the growing blame game and condemnation over the controversial March 4th General Election, the technology firm that supplied Hassan’s IEBC with the Biometric gadgets that collapsed during the election has come out to absolve itself from blame.
Speaking yesterday from South Africa, Ian Minty, the Tender office Executive Manager dismissed claims by Raila Odinga’s CORD alliance that his firm, Face Technologies supplied IEBC with faulty gadgets saying the gadgets he supplied were approved to be up to standard by the Kenya Bureau of Standard.
He maintains that the gadgets were tested upon arrival and were even used during the training sessions for operators and nothing bad was reported
The firm was contracted in 2012 to supply 35,000 Electronic Voter Identification Devices (EVIDs) plus full installation.
According to Minty, the users of the gadgets are to blame for the collapse of the system. He noted that failure by the operators to use correct log in procedures or failure to charge the three batteries before the start of the exercise does not constitute technical failure of the gadget.
Raila’s CORD has used the collapse of the IEBC electronic system as the basis of his evidence in the election petition challenging Uhuru’s victory.
