PM should not incite Kenyans - Wamalwa

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 20, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY IBRAHIM ORUKO
Justice Minister Eugene Wamalwa has urged Cord leader Raila Odinga to keep the dispute of the presidential election in the courts rather in public rallies.\
The Minister warned the Prime Minister that taking the matter out of the courts amounts to “incitement and raising public tensions” which he said can create post-election violence. Wamalwa told Raila to let the matter to reach its logical conclusion in the legal arena.
“The nation has paid too high a price at the altar of violence for us to go down that road gain. We urge leaders to exercise restraint and treat this matter with sobriety, maturity and sensitivity it deserves,” he said.
Wamalwa said that Raila's political rallies threaten to undermine the renewed investor confidence and the growing foreign direct investment that is beginning to pick following last week's polls.
The minister said this after New Ford Kenya NEC and Parliamentary Group meeting in Nairobi yesterday. The meeting brought together all the party's elected leaders which includes Bungoma County Governor-elect Ken Lusaka, Bungoma women representative Reginalda Wanyonyi and her Trans Nzoia counterpart Janet Nangabo.
Others are MPs-elect Boniface Otsyula (Bumula), Dan Wanyama (Webuye West), David Wafula (Saboti) and David Were (Matungu). During the media briefing Wamalwa declared that New Ford Kenya will work with President elect Uhuru Kenyatta and his Jubilee Alliance.
Speaking after the meeting, Wamalwa said the New Ford Kenya has approved the decision to partner with the Jubilee coalition. But he was quick to clarify that negotiations were still ongoing to finalise the exact nature of the partnership between the two sides.
Wamalwa used the occasion to declare that he is not interested in the race for the Speaker of the National Assembly but revealed that he is “available to serve in any other capacity.” “I have not applied for the position and will not be seeking it,” he said.
