In Summary
- Ngilu stormed into the tallying centre at the Nyayo national stadium and confronted the Nairobi county returning officer Fiona Nduku over the delay in transmission of results.
Armed police have been deployed at the Nairobi county tallying centre following a confrontation involving Narc's chairperson Charity Ngilu and the returning officer.
Ngilu stormed into the tallying centre at the Nyayo national stadium and confronted the Nairobi county returning officer Fiona Nduku over the delay in transmission of results.
The returning officer, fearing for her safety, called on the police to intervene when someone allegedly claimed they were hiding votes.
The armed police intervened by forcing out of the tallying hall those without accreditation from the IEBC.
Nairobi governorship candidates Ferdinand Waititu, who has been camping at the tallying centre since morning, and his competitor Evans Kidero, called on their supporters to remain calm as they awaited the results.
Waititu condemned the delay which the returning officer attributed to a technical hitch.
Results for the senate, governor and women representative for the county were to be electronically relayed to the centre but has been delayed.
Mr Kidero also urged the IEBC to provide information regarding the result transmission delays to allay voters fears.
He said the delay in transmission of the results smacked of incompetence and insensitivity as Nairobi voters were anxious.
The returning officer assured them that the results would be relayed through signed forms if the system failure persisted.
