Kiambu, Kenya: Kiambu County Gubernatorial candidate, William Kabogo has complained to the electoral commission saying the long wait for the completion of tallying of votes has caused him anxiety.
“As a candidate, I can only be patient to a certain extent because with time, the level of anxiety goes up,” said Kabogo.
Mr Kabogo who is vying on the National Alliance Party ticket, (TNA) said IEBC had created an impression that they had a computerised system in place which would enable people vote and obtain provisional results within four hours which was not the case.
Mr Kabogo who visited the Kiambu County tallying centre said he had been forced to come and seek an explanation from the returning officer because of the delay in release of results from different polling stations within Kiambu.
When he arrived, the polling clerks were not doing any tallying but waiting for the IEBCcomputerised system to be revived. The system had been down for two hours.
Mr Kabogo complained to the returning officer at Kiambu Technical Institute where the tallying centre has been set up.
The returning officer told the politician that the problem was being rectified.
Kiambu County has a total of 860,716 registered voters.
Mr Kabogo’s main rival is James Nyoro. The provisional results indicated that Kabogo was leading with 107,000 votes.
