The Office of the President has downplayed any possible rift between the County Commissioners and Governors who are being sworn in Tuesday in the 47 counties.
A statement from the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Internal Security Mutea Iringo is however urging politicians to desist from making inflammatory statements that could sour relationship between the two arms of government.
Iringo also warns County Governments from taking over public property at the county level without consulting the Transitions Authority.
The PS defended the existence of County Commissioners under the National Government Co-ordination ACT enacted by parliament to facilitate the restructuring to a devolved system of government.
Section 15 of the National Government Co-ordination ACT provides for the appointment of County Commissioners in respect of the County, a Deputy County Commissioner to replace the District Commissioner and the Assistant Commissioner to replace the District Officer.
The positions of Chiefs and Assistant Chiefs have been retained.
