Nairobi, Kenya: Polling stations will be opened at 6am and will close at 5pm countrywide for the Monday’s General Election.
Addressing a press conference on Sunday evening, Independent and Boundaries Commission ( IEBC) chairman Isaack Hassan urged Kenyans to come out and vote for their voices to be heard.
He also asked Kenyans to cooperate with the commission’s staff.
The IEBC boss added that provisional results will be out within 48 hours of voting.
He also appealed to employers withholding their employees' Identity Cards to release them so that they can partcipate in the polls.
“Voters will be required to identify themselves by using finger prints through Biometric Voter Registration kits”, IEBC chair said.
“All presidentail aspirants were also given the names of registered voters in soft copies”, Hassan said.
Police spokesman Charles Owino while addressing the press conference assured Kenyans of security.
“Kenyans should not panic. We are in charge of security in this country and our duty is to protect you”, said Owino.
Owino further added that over 7,000 senior police officers have been deployed all over the country to supervise the polls.
The IEBC chair issued hotlines numbers for Kenyans to report any illegality during Monday polls.
The numbers are: 0711 035 606 and 0735 035 616
