Amani coalition leader Musalia Mudavadi on Monday made an about turn, saying, he had not signed a post-poll coalition pact with Jubilee alliance as had been reported.
However, he said he held talks with President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta on how they would work together should the Supreme Court allow Jubilee to form the next government.
The rule of law
“I want to clarify that we are yet to enter into any post-election agreement with any of the coalitions, and when that is done, we will make it public. We have nothing to hide so let our supporters be assured,” he said.
During the talks with Mr Kenyatta, Mr Mudavadi (below) said he stressed the need to respect the rule of law and the court’s decision, as a condition for a post-election pact.
He said he would pass on the same message to Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord), were he invited for discussions on possible post-election alliance.
He said the case filed by Cord to challenge Mr Kenyatta’s victory did not stop them from talking to any group.
“Even if Cord invited us to a meeting, we would go, because all Amani wants is unity of the country,” he said.
However he clarified that the coalition would not be drawn into any ethnic persuasion or agenda but would work with the group that forms the next government on its own terms for the benefit of all Kenyans.
The Amani leader dismissed claims that they were begging for jobs in the new government, saying, any engagement with either Jubilee or Cord will be on a structured basis.
Discuss agenda
The meeting between Mr Mudavadi and Mr Kenyatta is the second in as many days.
He said should they reach any deal, the same would be formalised at the registrar of political parties.
Yesterday after holding a meeting, the alliance asked its MPs to discuss agenda to be conducted in Parliament and Senate.
