The devolved system of government was finally set in motion as majority of the 47 county governors formally were sworn into office.
Immediately after oath, they all tabled their promises and work plans.
In Nairobi, Evans Kidero pledged to transform the County into a World Class City by realizing the residents' vision of a “Better City” for “Better Life”.
Kidero disclosed that in his first 100 days in office, his energies will be focused on seven critical delivery areas, which are the pillars of his vision for a great city.
“I will dedicate my first 100 days in office to some of the most urgent aspects of the vision, “ he said.
These areas include security, unemployment, solid waste management and sanitation, ethnicity, health, housing , education, transport and infrastructure, and electricity, water among others.
He however admits that the journey as he outlined is certainly long and may look tiresome to the faint-hearted.
“We must face it with courage and make the necessary initial steps and personal sacrifices. As human beings, and especially as leaders, we have to dream big, plan meticulously, work tirelessly, and hope that God will be on our side.,” he stated.
In Mombasa county, Hassan Ali Joho promised to make Mombasa prosperous, clean and crime free county.
He told thousands of supporters who included delegates from South Sudan and Uganda that he would work on the image of the coastal city as the County’s prosperity was essential for Kenya's development and as a lifeline for regional economies.
Joho said that "tough decisions" will be made under his administration to fight crime, drug trafficking, garbage dumping in the county and to modernize its economy in collaboration with the private sector.
Mombasa resident judge justice Maureen Odero swore Joho and his deputy Hazel Katana.
