Dissatisfied voters slay giants

Displeased Kenyan voters maintained their once-in-five-years ritual of sacking incumbent Members of Parliament and replacing them with first-time aspirants.
Voters in Othaya constituency bid goodbye to their long serving MP President Kibaki by voting in Mary Wambui who faced stiff opposition from the first family.
Ms Wambui won the Othaya MP seat with 16,285 votes against Peter King’ara (GNU) 14,218 and Gichuki Mugambi (Saba Saba Asili) 10,972.
Transport Minister Amos Kimunya tops the lists of Cabinet Ministers who have lost their parliamentary seat in the Monday elections.
He lost his Kipipiri seat to Samuel Gichigi of Alliance Party of Kenya.
Gitobu Imanyara (ODM) lost to Energy Minister Kiraitu Murungi (APK) in the contest for the Meru governoship seat.
Mr Imanyara, while conceding defeat, said he is mulling over retiring from active politics.
Assistant Minister Bifwoli Wakoli, renowned for his outspokenness, lost his Bumula seat to New Ford Kenya's Boniface Otsiula.
Mr Otsiula garnered 18, 072 votes against Mr Wakoli's 11, 946.
Assistant ministers Mwangi Kiunjuri (GNU) and Nderitu Muriithi (UDF) are also trailing TNA candidate Joshua Irungu in the Laikipia County governor race.
Provisional results showed Mr Irungu leading with 25,034 votes followed by Mr Kiunjuri at 12,540, Mr Muriithi at 2,541.
Wilson Litole (ODM) lost his Sigor parliamentary seat to Philip Rotino of URP.
Mr Rotino polled 8, 941 votes against Mr Litole who got 7, 527. Kanu’s Francis Ruto managed 2, 652 votes.
