- Uhuru and Ruto want more time to tap from wider pool of professionals below age of 50
The deadline for applications for principal secretary jobs is set to be extended as President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta casts his net wide to form the next government.
Sources close to Mr Kenyatta and Deputy President-elect William Ruto said the two had embarked on the task of crafting the Cabinet even as Cord challenges their election victory in the Supreme Court.
Mr Kenyatta and Mr Ruto, it is understood, were keen to implement their campaign manifesto to the letter by drawing more youth and women in the government they are preparing.
Sources said the line-up for Cabinet secretaries, principal secretaries and key positions in government will comprise professionals mainly below 50 years who have shown that they can deliver.
Their first task will be to extend the deadline for principal secretaries to allow them to tap from a wider pool of professionals below the age of 50 working in the private sector so that they can fulfil their pledges.
President-elect Kenyatta asked Kenyans while in Mombasa yesterday to maintain peace so that the Jubilee government can implement its manifesto.
He spoke during a special prayer session for him at Kisima Cha Neema Cha Mwana Wa Daudi Church in Mombasa.
It is understood that Mr Kenyatta and Mr Ruto are working closely with Cabinet minister Jamleck Kamau, senator-elect Charles Keter and close allies from their campaign teams in forming the government.
In spite of failing to put a good show in Ukambani, Nyanza and Western regions, they are said to be keen to name a representative government, which explains their move to bring on board the United Democratic Forum, New Ford Kenya, Kanu, Alliance Party of Kenya and Chama cha Uzalendo.
Sources said seasoned politicians will be given ambassadorial posts or named to boards of directors of State corporations. The new government, however, will be named after the petition filed by Prime Minister Raila Odinga has been heard and concluded.
