Corridors Of Power

TUESDAY, MARCH 5, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY POLITICAL DESK
Vote hunting ahead of yesterday’s election saw propaganda taken to new heights as politicians and their supporters tried to outdo each other. Supporters of one of the presidential candidate saw the opportunity in school going children. The supporters used various means to convince the young ones to pass a message to their parents that they must vote for a particular candidate as victory by his rival will see the parents forced to abandon trousers and instead put on shorts throughout.

And still on wooing voters, a Cord  candidate from one of Nairobi’s newly created constituencies and  who  migrated from one of the constituencies to the other hopping to enjoy support of his Kamba community was at it again. The man sent youths to his rival with a message that the camp is ready to defect if the rival is willing to part with something. Unknown to him that his mission was well known, the youths were met with hostility and told to go back to their boss with a message that no one is willing to buy any votes.

Most people were surprised yesterday in Uasin Gishu County when Higher Education Minister Margaret Kamar spoilt her own vote by placing it in a wrong ballot box. Kamar who is gunning for the gubernatorial seat marked her ballot papers properly and when it came to placing it in the right ballot box, she got mixed up and placed it in a different one. She placed that of the governess in the senator 's ballot box and that of the senator in the governor's one.

Team Jimnah Mbaru sent out two texts early yesterday with the intention to sway voters to his side. The first one claimed that Mbaru had suddenly overtaken TNA's Ferdinand Waititu in the latest opinion  poll. The second text claimed that Uhuru had changed his mind and decided to throw his wait behind Waititu and Nairobians should instead vote for Mbaru. many of those who received the texts called Corridors to protest the fact that Mbaru's team was soliciting for votes on election day which  is against the law.
