Corridors of Power

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 27, 2013 - 00:00 -- BY POLITICAL DESK
A Coast ODM MP, who retained his seat in the just concluded general elections, is crossing his fingers hoping the Supreme Court will rule in favour of Jubilee in the petition filed by Cord.  The reason for the man's anxiety is simple. He is broke after spending most of his money in his election campaigns. He is afraid that he will not have the financial muscle to put up another campaign for Cord in his area should the Supreme Court rule in favour of the coalition and order a repeat election.

A Cabinet minister from the North Rift who lost in the recent elections is now making an unreasonable demand on his campaign chiefs— refund all the money he gave them for the campaigns! The man is infuriated that he has little to show after spending huge amounts of money on his campaign. “I slaughtered some of my best bulls, sheep and goats for them but the only thing they did was to eat and belch around here without ensuring that electorate voted for me. They should never step in my house,” the minister was overheard complaining. The man, who is still in denial after being in Parliament for over a decade, has now issued instructions to his workers to let his dogs roam freely in his home compound to deter any uninvited guests—particularly his campaign managers!

A newly elected MP has found himself being  haunted by one of the skeletons in his closet. No sooner had he been declared the victor than a woman emerged from the shadows claiming the man as her boyfriend and the baby daddy of her three children. Despite the MP-elect's entreaties, the woman has said she will go to court and demand child support, maintenance and even a 'big house' in Nairobi for herself and the children. She has also refused to listen to the MP-elect's plea that she abandon her idea of moving into the city and remain at the village where he promises to look after her and the children. According to the MP-elect, his salary will not be enough to look after two families in the city.

Another MP-elect from the Coast region is having a headache from the numerous ' supporters' who have been accosting him asking for all sorts of favours including cash handouts. The MP-elect has said that until he is sworn into office as aMheshimiwa, the electorate should not demand anything from him. However some of the haters believe there is a simple reason why the man is finding it so hard to be 'generous.' They claim he depleted his resources during the campaigns and cannot wait to be sworn in so that he can take an advance to allow him to 'reward' those who campaigned for him.
