“Waswahili husema baada ya dhiki ni faraja, I am confident very soon you will get out of your current situation and begin celebrating,” he said. He pointed out that Kenyans were yearning for the truth and that this can only be achieved when there is justice.
“Without truth, there cannot be justice, without justice there cannot be reconciliation, without reconciliation, there cannot be peace and without peace, there cannot be development and we all hope Kenyans’ will achieve all this soon,” he said.
Odinga was accompanied by his wife Idah, Kisumu County Governor elect Jack Ranguma, his deputy Ruth Odinga and MPs elect Ken Obura (Kisumu Central), Jakoyo Midiwo (Gem), Fred Outa (Nyando) Aduma Owuor (Nyakach) and nominated MP Oburu Oginga.
Idah reiterated on the need to embrace hope citing that “night can be long but dawn must always come.” Obura called for calm among their supporters saying they were only experiencing delayed victory.
“As the MP for Kisumu Central I want to state that Kisumu is not at peace but calm. We are silent and our silence means a lot for the peace that we want in this country,” he said. Midiwo applauded the residents for maintaining peace after the elections.
“Both the international and the local media camped here during the elections and after hoping that there would be violence. We are happy you maintained calm despite the floored elections and ashamed the perpetrators,” he said.
