Uhuru, Ruto prepare to tour Nyanza

By John Oywa
KENYA: Jubilee Alliance presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta is organising an elaborate campaign trip to Nyanza, the home turf of his main challenger- Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Source at Uhuru’s campaign secretariat told The Standard on Thursday that Uhuru and his running mate William Ruto will be flying to the region next week for campaign rallies in Migori, Homa Bay, Kisumu and Siaya counties.
It will be the first time Uhuru is visiting Siaya, Raila’s home county since the campaigns started.
Buoyed by his good performance in the Monday presidential debate, Uhuru is going to Nyanza to plead for votes and to campaign for the many candidates he has fielded in the Counties, Senate and National Assembly seats.
Confirming the visit, TNA Secretary General Onyango Oloo said preparations were underway for what he termed as the historic tour of Nyanza.
“We have not yet settled on the exact dates but it will be next week. We are busy preparing the ground. I will be in Nyanza from Friday (today) to address logistical issues,” he said.
Earlier, one of the two Jubilee presidential campaign co-ordinators in Nyanza, Mr Elvis Omondi said they had organised for Uhuru to meet voters in rural outposts during his tour.
“The tour has been postponed twice because Uhuru has been busy. Now we are set and sure of winning a few parliamentary seats from Luo Nyanza,” said Mr Omondi.
He added: “Our party is slowly but steadily penetrating Nyanza.  There is no more hostility.”
