Friday, the 8th of February 2013 - ICC Chief Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda has complained that there are powerful forces in Kenya actively working to make public the names of prosecution witnesses.
Bensouda made the comments during an interview with the BBC’s Southern Africa correspondent Karen Allen.
“It has been a challenge. We know that there are elements actively working to know the names of our witnesses so that they can out them. I think it is very irresponsible,” said Bensouda.
Allen’s piece also includes an interview with Uhuru Kenyatta, Raila Odinga (the two top contenders for the Presidency in the March 4th elections) and a woman (Jane Warugu Mwangi) who says her husband carried out killings for the outlawed Mungiki sect in the 2007/2008 post election violence at the behest of some powerful politicians.
The woman said her husband used to come home with ‘army clothes’, guns and used to attend meetings at State House.
The woman’s husband is now missing, presumed dead.
