Residents heckle Kajwang’ at CORD rally

By JAMES OMORO
Homa Bay, Kenya: Immigration Minister Otieno Kajwang’ was heckled and forced to cut his speech in front of Prime Minister Raila Odinga after he tried to address a rally in Homa Bay County.
Mr Kajwang’ was telling residents to vote for ODM candidates but the crowd at Homa Bay High School booed and shouted at him.
“Let us vote in uniform to ensure that ODM retains the members it had in the 10th Parliament,” said the former Mbita legislator amid heckling from the crowd.
The minister was forced to leave the dais, as Sports Minister Ababu Namwamba took the microphone from him.
A section of the crowd threw stones, shoes and water bottles towards the dais.
CORD presidential candidate who was present helplessly watched the drama.
Public Service Minister Dalmas Otieno and his Local Government counterpart Fred Gumo were also heckled.
Raila echoed Kajwang’s stand and asked Nyanza residents to vote six-piece, in March 4 elections.
The PM said after the next General Election, all CORD affiliate parties will review their parliamentary numbers and it would be a shame if ODM has less MPs.
He compared CORD to a polygamous family whereby children eat together with their mothers.
“CORD is like a polygamous family where there is Mikayi (first wife), Reru (second wife) and Nyachira (third wife) whereby at the end of the day every wife needs to have her children in her house,” he argued.
He appealed to residents of Nyanza to elect only aspirants who are contesting on ODM ticket and referred to others as madoadoa.
“Jothuruwa kik umiya madoadoa. Dang’ ukwod wiya. (Our people do not give me madoadoa. You would ashame me,” Raila said.
