Tuesday February 12, 2013 - With 19 days remaining to the historic March 4thgeneral election, Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta journey’s to State House seems to be unstoppable now, after hundreds of Muslim clerics dumped Prime Minister Raila Odinga for Deputy Prime Minster Uhuru Kenyatta.
The clerics and Imams from Coast province, who met at Baluchi hall in Mombasa, said they will support Uhuru Kenyatta after wide consultations with their followers.
The preachers attacked the West accusing the US and European governments of trying to influence the outcome of Kenya’s March 4th election.
The more than 300 imams led by Raila Odinga’s close confidante Sheikh Juma Ngao announced that they had cut links with Raila Odinga over the failed 2007 pre-election Memorandum of Understanding.
“We have today reviewed that MOU signed between Raila Odinga and National Muslim Leaders Forum (NAMLEF) and dissolved it. We now support Uhuru for the presidency,” Ngao said.
The Imams said they will mobilise their followers to vote against a “WEST PREFERRED CANDIDATE” saying Kenya is a sovereign country which can make its own choice.
This is a major boost to Uhuru‘s Presidential bid especially in cementing the popular Coastal vote.
