How MOI realised WILLIAM RUTO‘s charm ...... and now his Rift Valley POLITICS (A MUST READ)

He is a mobiliser, a gifted orator, a charismatic leader and energetic politician who has mastered the art and science of oratory.

William Kipchirchir Samoei Ruto’s rise to the current position is evidence of former President Moi’s insight in looking for young leaders.

Moi realised Ruto‘s oratory skill at a church choir meeting in Eldoret town in 1991. Ruto had only completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Nairobi during the event.

Ruto teamed up with a group of youths led by former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, to drum up support for President’s Moi election in 1992.

Ruto successfully managed to marshal a countrywide youth network (Youth for Kanu) 1992), which made Moi get the top seat easily.

Having played a crucial role in securing Moi’s presidency, Ruto became one of the then President’s trusted boys.

Ruto, a young, witty but restless man started building connections with the powerful and mighty – ONLY at age 26, and true to his ambitions he clinched the Eldoret North seat in 1997 - at the age of 31.

When Ruto entered into Parliament, this marked a major milestone to his ambitions of becoming what he wanted to be. He was the first Assistant Minister to chair a Cabinet meeting during Moi’s regime.

He had to fight with KANU strong man Nicholas Biwott and ODM chairman Henry Kosgei into taking Moi’s seat after Moi retired from politics in 2002.

Today his word in Kalenjin land is law and ODM’s National Election Board Franklin Bett confirmed this last year

“In Kalenjin land, you are either with Ruto or you get swept aside,” Bett said

Ruto is now the Jubilee alliance Deputy Presidential candidate.

He has vowed to marshal 2 million Kalenjin votes to jubilee’s basket come March 4th.
Is he really able to deliver 2 million votes to Jubilee’s basket?
