6 people DEAD in Turkana following a CATTLE RAID … death toll may rise further

Friday, the 8th of February 2013 - The Kenyan DAILY POST has received reports that a cattle raid by bandits in the Turkana South district has left at least six people dead.

Details are still sketchy but according to some reports the attack happened at Kaptir village at the crack of dawn.

The village is said to have been guarded by police reservists so there are fears a few of the officers among the dead. The raiders are said to have made away with an unknown number of cattle.

Area Police Chief John Bosco Muutu, while confirming the incident, said that his charges are on the trail of the attackers.

Sources said that there is serious possibility that the death toll from the attack may rise even further.

With ‘cattle rustler’ almost counting as a job description in the area, Turkana has more than earned its reputation as a trouble spot. Last year more than 40 police officers were killed during an operation to recovers stolen cattle.
