Two main political parties were yesterday grappling with the fate of nomination bids for its prominent members.
The ODM national elections board was yesterday locked in meetings to deal with a degree scandal facing assistant minister Margaret Wanjiru, one its top gubernatorial contenders in Nairobi County.
Bishop Wanjiru was summoned to the board’s headquarters where a letter from the Commission on Higher Education (CHE) on the validity of her two degree certificates was discussed.
Elections board chairman Franklin Bett declined to give the details of the talks and contents of the letter, saying the matter was sensitive.
“We have several alternatives both for Ms Wanjiru and for us on how to deal with this,” Mr Bett said.
The Nation established that a proposal for Bishop Wanjiru to run for the Nairobi women’s representative seat was also discussed.
Ms Wanjiru presented degree certificates from the United Graduate College and Seminary International and Vineyard Harvester Bible College but the CHE is said to have declared the certificates as unrecognised.
A petitioner also questioned her “O” Level certificate.
Bishop Wanjiru could not be reached and one of her aides said she was busy in meetings.
In TNA, the election board is expected to call an urgent meeting to hear complaints against some of its aspirants.
A source said cases to be heard included that of Othaya aspirant Ms Mary Wambui.
He said the party elections board wanted to address the concerns to avoid being barred by the electoral team.
