Hundreds of The National Alliance (TNA) aspirants spent the day chasing after party officials to secure their certificates ahead of Monday's deadline for parties to submit the lists of their contestants to the electoral commission.
The aspirants flocked the Panafric Hotel on Monday morning after word went round that the party was issuing certificates to those who won during Friday’s primaries, only to be told that no TNA official had been spotted.
They proceeded to the nearby Silver Springs Hotel after learning that the party had called a press conference to make the list public only for the function to be called off.
It was not until 5pm that the party Secretary General Onyango Oloo addressed the press at the Laico Regency Hotel where he declared that the final list was ready and would be submitted to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) before the end of the day.
“TNA has dispensed with all complaints arising from the nominations and we are forwarding the final list to the chairman IEBC before the end of the day,” said Mr Oloo who was flanked by Public Health Minister Beth Mugo.
“We have examined all the cases forwarded to us, Kipipiri included. We have acted on the recommendations of the disputes resolution board which has overturned certain decision and confirmed others,” he stated, alluding to the controversial nomination of Transport Minister Amos Kimunya.
He added that the outcome of the appeals had been communicated to all the aggrieved aspirants, a statement which was denounced by former Kamukunji MP Simon Mbugua.
“Nobody has been notified of the outcome of our appeals, we are being kept in the dark. No complaint was acted upon, the party seems to have rubberstamped whatever results they received,” he complained.
