The returning officer Kipipiri constituency has denounced results which claimed that Minister Amos Kimunya had won in the TNA nominations.

This came as police in Engineer Kinangop intercepted ten ballot boxes from Kipipiri which were being ferried to unknown place on Friday night.

The officer Isaac Kung'u said that the tallying exercise was never completed adding that at no time did he declare Kimunya as the parliamentary winner.

Kung'u said that out of the 67 polling stations in the constituency, they had tallied results for 65 stations before the exercise was stopped in unclear circumstances.

"At the moment we don’t know who the winner for the Kipipiri parliamentary seat is as the tallying exercise was never completed," he said.

The officer termed the exercise as highly contested between Kimunya and Samuel Kamunye Gichigi.

He noted that by the time it was stopped, the difference between the top twocontestants was less than 200 votes.

Kung'u said that the issue had since been taken over by the TNA tribunal and accused the media for the conflicting results.

Gichigi who had been leading in the race has disputed the results alleging that it was rigged.

Gichigi was incidentally a lawyer for Kimunya and his supporters and those of the minister camped at Engineer police station over the impasse.

Area OCPD Samson Munyao confirmed that they were holding the ten ballot boxes that were intercepted in Geta area.

He said that the boxes were from Rumwe and Ngatho polling stations and the driver ferrying them alleged that he had been assaulted by members of the public.

"TNA headquarters have called us and said that they will pick the boxes and solve the issue in Nairobi," he said.

One of Gichigi's supporters Samuel Maina told how they were harassed by Kimunya's guard at the height of the exercise before been arrested.

"We were following one of the vehicles that was carrying ballot boxes but the guards attacked us before taking us to Miharati police station," he said. - The Standard
