Monday, the 21st of January 2013 -Halakhe Waqo has today been sworn in as the new boss of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
“I know people have a lot of expectations. I am alive to them and I am ready to work with those around me to ensure this fight is fast and successful,” he said.
Waqo becomes the first CEO of the EACC since it was established to replace the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission that was last headed by PLO Lumumba.
One of Waqo’s first duties in office is to ensure that EACC does a thorough vetting of the candidates for the various seats in the March 4th elections.
The EACC ACT gives Waqo a six-year non-renewable term in which to accomplish his objectives.
EACC vice-chairperson Irene Keino welcomed Waqo’s appointment saying he is the right man for the job;
“It is a challenging job. It requires someone with great passion. We know Waqo has the qualities to oversee it,” she said.
Also present at the swearing in was Chief Justice Willy Mutunga.
