Regional Development minister Fred Gumo has quit active politics after 38 years.
Mr Gumo made the announcement Wednesday but said he will continue supporting Prime Minister Raila Odinga's presidential bid.
The former Westlands MP said he intends to form a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that will assist the poor, particularly orphans.
Mr Odinga is the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) presidential candidate.
