NAIROBI; KENYA: The National Elections Board (NEB) of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has dispelled claims that it had declared Ms Ruth Odinga as the nominee for the Kisumu Governor’s seat in the March 4, General Election.
In a press statement addressed to the media, the board categorically stated that it had not issued any information regarding the Kisumu gubernatorial contest.
“The Board categorically states that it has not issued any information regarding the Kisumu gubernatorial contest and urges the residents of Kisumu to remain calm and maintain peace,” the letter read.
This comes after chaotic scenes rocked Nyando Constituency and Kisumu County areas on Saturday morning after voters disputed the ODM party nomination results.
The voters in Ahero, Nyando Constituency,had protested against the announcement of Fred Outa as the ODM winner in parliamentary nominations saying Jared Okelo won the nominations.
Riots were also witnessed in Kondele, Kisumu County that Ruth Odinga had been declared the ODM Kisumu County gubernatorial nominations winner instead of Jack Ranguma.
The ODM elections board also said that the reports in the mainstream media and information that is trending on the social media should be treated as rumours and therefore urges the public to ignore them.
The release added that the Board Chairman, Franklin Bett and his entire team will issue a comprehensive statement later in the day which will also include news on the Kisumu County nominations exercise.
