Youths hold demo over Ruto, Uhuru pact

By Titus Too
A section of youths staged a procession in Eldoret town to protest the yet to be signed political pact between Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto.
The group representing all counties in the North Rift region dismissed an alliance between URP and TNA, saying there has never been proper consultation of all stakeholders.
“We as young people converge to express our dissatisfaction with the duo’s political marriage because it is ill informed and no consultation was done,” said Jacob Kemboi Rotich, the coordinator of the group.
Clad in white T-shirts and caps inscribed ‘Achicha wendi kityo’ (No, he will go alone), the group held a meeting at the Eldoret Municipal Council hall before staging the procession.  “As a group, we will carry out rigorous campaigns in the region to ensure residents make informed choices in the next General Election,” said Rotich.
Exclusion
“The political pact between URP and TNA is a result of a deal that excluded majority people of Rift Valley Province, where youths also make a higher percentage,” added Rotich.
They said in forming any political coalitions, leaders should inform residents about the processes to enable them make informed decisions for future political stand.
During the meeting at the hall, speakers expressed confidence in Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s presidential bid.
Joseph Amdany, who addressed the meeting, dismissed presidential aspirants who have called for his retirement.
He also dismissed the Ruto and Uhuru alliance saying: “The voices of the people have been ignored. The next elections will be a turning point and we appeal to the youth to vote wisely.”
The group appealed to youths to turn up in large numbers and register as voters for them to participate in the next elections.
