Wanjiru to vie for Nairobi governorship

Bishop Margaret Wanjiru
Starehe Member of Parliament Margaret Wanjiru Sunday officially declared her candidature for Nairobi's governorship seat.
Ms Wanjiru said she will seek nomination on an ODM ticket where she will face-off with former Mumias Sugar Company Chief Executive Officer Evans Kidero and former Nairobi City Council town clerk Philip Kisia.
"I will vie for the Nairobi county governorship in the forthcoming general elections on a ODM ticket under the new constitution dispensation" Wanjiru said.
She announced her candidature while presiding over a Sunday service at her Jesus is Alive Ministries ending weeks of speculation that she would defect to TNA.
Speculation had been rife for weeks now that Nairobi county ODM bigwig Bishop Margaret Wanjiru would follow in the footsteps of Rachel Shebesh and join Uhuru's TNA.
Bishop Wanjiru said her fight for the seat can only be compared to biblical David verses Goliath encounter and those doubting her decision will be in for a rude shock come March 2013.
She said she believed she could offer the "brightest and most prosperous future for Nairobi as a county and the republic of Kenya as a whole."
The legislator said she would outline her agenda and vision for Nairobi County at a later date which will address the challenges facing it.
"Nairobi's problems are very unique and they can only be solved by hands on approach to leadership," she said.
Sources indicated that Wanjiru missed admission to TNA after she allegedly declined to step down for a particular aspirant for governorship race.
The TNA ticket is being sought by business magnet Jimnah Mbaru, former NCBDA chairman Timothy Muriuki and Embakasi MP Ferdinard Waititu.
