The search for Kenyans to take part in the leadership education reality TV show under the Uongozi campaign is approaching the crucial phase with more people picked in auditions last week.
The campaign aims to pick 48 Kenyans to take part in the show to be screened by NTV beginning December 9 this year.
The participants will be tested for leadership skills on the show that will among other things seek to help Kenyans elect good leaders and promote good governance.
The campaign is sponsored by the Nation Media Group and Inuka Kenya.
“The campaign is also aimed at encouraging Kenyans to engage in the democratic process positively and avoid division,” said Ms Dorothy Onyango, an Uongozi campaign official, after auditions for the show in Kisii on Friday.
Ms Onyango said many Kenyans have expressed optimism that the initiative will help them choose their leaders well. More than 12,000 applications have been received.
Ms Onyango said turn-outs for the auditions have been impressive, citing their experience in Kisii where people from different ethnic groups and social backgrounds stepped forward.
In Kitale, the audition team shortlisted three candidates from a field of 56 contestants.
“The three have really gone through a competitive vetting in the auditions and we are sure they will make good players in the team,” said the auditions team leader, Mr Brian Mung’ei.
There were also auditions in Garissa and Loitokitok.
