Mudavadi woos North Rift voters

Mudavadi woos North Rift voters
By Michael Wesonga
Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi concluded his tour of the North Rift with a message that he will not join coalitions for the sake of politics.
He said coalitions should be well thought out and formed under the auspices of fairness, justice and trust as opposed to suspicion.
Speaking at a rally in Eldoret’s 64 Stadium, the UDF presidential aspirant said electing a president is a serious business that should not be done through a protest vote.
And wooing the Kalenjin vote, the DPM announced he would mentor Kenyan youth particularly the Kalenjin into mainstream leadership when he becomes president.
This he said would be his way of giving back to the community where retired President Moi comes from.
Mudavadi said he owed his political strides to President Moi for scouting for him at an early age of 28 and mentoring him into leadership as a minister after his father’s death.
“I promise to take the interests of your youth at heart in the same way you have always supported and mentored my leadership,” he said.
personal debts
The DPM has had cordial relation with Rift Valley, especially due to his family’s ties to the region.
Mudavadi was born in Kabarnet in 1960 at the time when his late father was a District Education Officer making his vote hunt trip to the region symbolic.
During the tour of the North Rift, Mudavadi traversed Baringo, Elgeyo/Marakwet and Uasin Gishu counties.
Addressing Baringo residents on Thursday, Mudavadi said he had “come back home to get blessings in his journey to seek the presidency.”
“I have come back home to seek your blessings in line with the Kalenjin culture of seeking blessings from an uncle before proposing to a lady. Today, I have come to get blessing from my uncles,” he told the crowd.
MPs allied to the DPM claimed that those decamping to join TNA had been wooed by the promise of clearing their personal debts.
“All those rushing there have been bought out and it is an open secret,” claimed Shinyalu MP Justus Kizito.
