MINISTER condemns killing of officers in BARAGOI

Monday, 12th of November 2012 -Assistant Internal Security Minister Alfred Khang’ati has come out strongly to condemn the killing of 28 police officers by cattle rustlers in Baragoi district, Samburu County over the weekend.

Khang’ati reiterated that the government will stop at nothing to bring the menace of cattle rustling to a stop. The Minister spoke as it emerged that numbers of those who died during Saturday’s attacks –including bandits-  might be as high as 45.

The Minister, who is deputizing for Kattoo Ole Mtito while the latter is away on a visit to Israel said that the government had already sent additional security officers to the area;

“As a ministry we have beefed up security in Baragoi and the entire Samburu County to avert similar attacks and killings of innocent Kenyans,” Khang’ati said.

The Minister also called on Kenyans to ensure that they are not duped by politicians into fighting each other like it happened in 2007;

“Politicians in this country should solicit for votes in a peaceful manner and avoid divisive politics at all cost,” Khang’ati said.

“Kenyans should be given the opportunity to vote peacefully and go home, the idea of people causing chaos after elections in pretence that so and so has lost an election will not be entertained,” he warned.

“You cannot force people to vote for you,  Kenyans have a last say to decide leaders they want come 4th March 2013, and their decision should be respected, politicians should ask for elections peacefully and the electorate to have a final decision,” said Khanga’ti.

The Assistant Minister also asked the people of Bungoma not to vote along party lines since it might lead to the wrong leaders getting into Parliament;

“If we elect leaders on political party lines we are bound to make mistakes by voting in bad leaders, residents of Bungoma should think wisely and elect able leaders to spur development in the region,” he urged.
