One of the losers in the recent controversial ODM Ndhiwa nominations, has thrown his weight behind Kanu's candidate in the September 17 by-elections. Washington Kale will head Tom Alila's campaign team. Alila is running on a Kanu ticket. “ODM must listen to us and stop imposing aspirants. This should serve as a lesson to the party as we head to the general election,” said Kale.
He spoke as other ODM losers vowed to spearhead joint campaigns for Neto Oyugi, who beat them in the disputed primaries. Prime Minister Raila Odinga last week held a meeting with the losers in Kisumu and asked them to support Oyugi. But some of them snubbed the PM's meeting. The losers said the joint rallies are part of ODM's strategy to restore the voters' confidence and win the seat by a huge margin.
"We call on our supporters to rally behind Oyugi to ensure victory for Raila Odinga, for Oyugi as our next MP and the party," said Mike Agwanda. Agwanda, James Onduru, Beatrice Ogolla, Kennedy Onduru, David Ojwang and Monica Amolo who were some of the losers, were speaking in Homa Bay. They said Ndhiwa is an ODM zone and will not allow any other party to infiltrate it.
Meanwhile, top Kanu leaders among them chairman Gideon Moi are expected to lead Alila's campaigns beginning this week. A loser in the recent ODM nominations Ndhiwa constituency has now taken over the campaigns for the Kanu candidate. Washington Kale maintained that he will support Kanu’s Tom Alila despite being an ODM member.
Speaking in a press conference in Homa Bay town, the losers led by Monica Amolo and Mike Agwanda said they will support Oyugi and will jointly campaign for him. While reading a statement, said they have decided to put the party agenda forward and will campaign in support of the party and not individual to see over ninety percent support for ODM.
