Among those questioned on her death is Juja MP William Kabogo, who is also scheduled to testify at the inquest. Mercy’s father, Mr Joseph Kipsang’ Keino, was the first witness to testify before principal magistrate Peter Ndwiga.
He gently shook his head several times and stared blankly whenever he was asked a question on his daughter’s death.
Mr Keino, a lecturer at Moi University’s Kabianga campus, recalled that his wife called him on the evening of June 18 with the information that their daughter could not be traced after attending a party with a friend.
“I immediately called her fiancé to find out more information and he confirmed to me that Mercy had accompanied her friend called Scolastica to a party at Wasini Luxury Homes, Westlands, and she could not been traced,” he said.
He said that his daughter’s death came just two months after they had negotiated the bride price with her fiancé's parents.
Soon after the call from his wife, he boarded a vehicle from Kericho and reached Nairobi at around 1am. After a meeting with his wife, he went to the club where his daughter had gone for the party.
The father said he was informed by a security officer called Juma that his daughter came to the party with three colleagues in a taxi.

Mr Keino testified that according the security officer, two men brought his daughter out of the party at some point and dumped her at the gate. She was limping and asked to be shown the toilets.
Soon after, two women came for her and took her back to the room where the party was going on only for her to be thrown out again by another two men. This time she started running away.
He asked the direction Mercy took and was shown another gate where he found two guards who confirmed that they saw a girl running towards Waiyaki Way followed by two men.
They told me that they had the child shouting she didn’t want to go back to the party but the men slapped her several times.
From then they didn’t know what happened,” said Mr Keino. The inquest resumes on September 10 and Mr Kabogo is expected to testify.
