Gideon denies plan to support PM Raila

Acting Kanu chairman Gideon Moi yesterday denied reports that his party will back Prime Minister Raila Odinga in next year's elections. The former Baringo Central MP told the Star that his statement in Ndhiwa to the effect that he was willing to form a coalition with among others people the PM was taken out of context.
"I have asked the people of Ndhiwa to vote for Tom Alilia on Monday because he will then be the bridge between Kanu and ODM. I did not say that Kanu will support Raila," said the son of the former President. Last month, President Moi denied that he was working on an alliance with Raila following the death of Internal Security minister George Saitoti.
Yesterday, Nation Media Group and the Standard newspaper sent out SMS alerts announcing that Gideon had announced that his party will not field a presidential candidate and will instead back Raila. Speaking in Ndhiwa where he led party officials to drum up support for Alila, Gideon said no party will win the elections alone and there is need to forge alliance and friendship ahead of the poll.
“Many parties have merged with an intention to block Raila from ascending to power and it is important that the party look for like minded parties and we are ready for that,” Moi said.
