“Kwani IEBC Server is hosted in #Rongai?” wondered Robert Kilonzi @syindu_mutongoi.
The website crashed on Monday evening and a weak access was restored at 8.30pm after most results had been relayed on social media from the Safari Club tallying centre and polling stations.
Many wondered the source of the server problems as the IEBC website has in the past elections and referenda managed to withstand heavy traffic.
“The IEBC website is hosted on a server in some dude’s bedroom,” tweeted Marvin K. Tumbo @marvintumbo.
Journalists also joined in the debate with the Kenya Editors Guild Chairman leading the pack.
“#By-elections, has the @IEBCpage website crashed?,” @MachariaGaitho asked on twitter.
“This is one story we should all tell, First they posted wrong results on station results from main pg @IEBCpage,” said blogger Dennis Itumbi @OleItumbi.
Kenyans would also not keep off politics from the electoral process.
Michael Kamau @mkamau07 tweeted: “Too many posts about ODM winning a civic seat.”
“ODM (Raila) beats UDF (Mudavadi) in Bukura ward elections ….. interesting results…..,” analysed The Standard journalist Kizito Namulanda @Kizzitto.
“Why did we even waste money doing #By-elections? It was obvious #ODM would win Ndhiwa and #TNA both kangema & Kajiado North,” lamented Dr Nick Gachara @Nickgachara.
The by-elections saw Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta assert his political supremacy as his party captured the Kajiado North and Kangema parliamentary seats previously held by the Party of National Unity.
ODM easily nailed it in Ndhiwa.
