With the clock ticking down on the election timetable, the government is yet to decide which company will be awarded the tender to provide the biometric voter registration kits. Our moles tell us the Cabinet sub-committee tasked with the matter was due to make its decision last Friday so that the winning company can start making arrangements to procure and supply the kits. Of great concern are reports that no one company can single handedly deliver the kits in time for the elections and therefore some kind of consortium needs to be formed to be able to meet the deadline.

A senior ODM Cabinet minister received a rude shock last week when he failed to get a certificate of good conduct which he had applied for from the CID headquarters. The man's application was denied because the records connected him to serious crimes dating back to 1967. It was after a senior CID officer intervened that the man was able to get the certificate which is one of the documents an aspirant has to present to be considered eligible for nomination by his political party.
