The failure by the IEBC to procure the BVR and subsequent the government takeover of the process, has muted the commission officials. They neither respond to telephone calls nor text messages. And when reached, some commissioners keep referring media inquiries to the chairman while one of them is permanently either in "church", at a "family function" or at a "chama" meeting and can only be called later. Could it be the commission's new policy is to keep off the media?

The recent conviction of public officers on corruption has sent shivers down the spines of many senior civil servants. There is discernible panic among the top dogs in the public service on just when the axe will fall and their underhand deals ways exposed. An accountant in one of the ministries at the Treasury is a worried man. We are told the middle aged man is scared over payments he irregularly made to a minister and PS. He is now shuttling between his office and the minister and PS's offices seeking to regularise the payments that run into millions of shillings to save his skin.

Thugs broke into the city House of a PS, who recently retired to plunge into politics and stole valuables worth millions of shillings. Curiously, no report was filed with the police, a matter that has alarmed our mole. Corridors has learned the youthful former PS is in a dilemma because if he reports the incident, there are bound to be questions from the police and the anti-corruption authorities on the load of money the thugs carted away from house.

Competition for the control of Nairobi politics is getting tougher. Reports of night meetings, money splashing and alliance building are all in the air. A burly former Nairobi MP and his allies have held night meetings in Huruma, Mbotela, Makongeni and Mukuru Kwa Njenga to craft an alliance he believes will control city politics. Our mole tells us that the man is determined to bring all communities into an outfit christened Nairobi-Kavirondo Association that he believes will shake the nook and cranny of the capital.
