The United Democratic Forum will use the by-election in Bukura Ward to test its popularity in western Kenya.
A victory for the Musalia Mudavadi-led party on September 17 will send a strong signal about his chances of winning the presidency in next year’s General Election.
Mr Mudavadi, who was on a campaign trail in Kakamega County at the weekend, urged voters in Bukura to elect the party’s candidate, Mr Walter Andati.
“Voters in Bukura have an opportunity to make history by electing the first candidate contesting an elective position on the party’s ticket. Victory in Bukura will send a strong signal about my intention to clinch the presidency,” Mr Mudavadi said.
He was accompanied by MPs Boni Khalwale (Ikolomani) and Justus Kizito (Shinyalu) in a campaign that covered Lurambi, Khwisero, Stand Khisa, Mulwanda and Sabatia.
The Sabatia MP said he had supported other candidates in previous General Elections, and that the time had come for them to back him.
Mr Mudavadi said he had campaigned across the country and was confident that UDF was the party to beat at the polls. He dismissed claims that he was State House “project”. (READ: Will State House links boost or hurt Mudavadi?)
“I am not contesting for the presidency to spoil for any other candidate, since in 2002, I supported Uhuru Kenyatta and in 2007 I backed Raila Odinga,” he said.
The Bukura seat will also be contested by ODM’s Reuben Nyangweso and Ms Faith Manya of The Maendeleo Democratic Party.

  1. Extremely informative information. Nevertheless, the cost colour and multifunction colour laser
printers must have been addressed. They're still more expensive compared to inkjet printers although worth the additional prices.
