MAYBE MARTHA Karua should wait until 2017

Tuesday August 14, 2012 - Visiting Liberian Nobel Peace laureate Leymah Roberta Gbowee has said presidential hopeful Martha Karua is not yet mature to vie for presidency in the upcoming poll.

The Nobel laureate, who is credited for leading a peace movement that brought up an end to the Second Liberian Civil War in 2003 and subsequent election of Ellen Johnson Sirleaf as the first African female President, said that Kenyan women have spent much time building initiatives since 2008 and not prepared well enough in active politics.

“Women in Kenya have been busy looking for peace, but forgetting to chart the political future  of the country, they failed in their work and therefore it is impossible  for them to win perhaps  they start preparing for 2017 immediately the next elections are held  by raising awareness and mobilizing resources for campaign,”Leymah said.

The Nobel laureate was speaking at a workshop on strengthening women leadership in transition hosted by Daima Initiative for Peace and Development at Ole Sereni Hotel in Nairobi on Monday.
