Kenya needs leaders whose legacy can be emulated by future generations, Planning and National Development assistant minister Peter Kenneth has said.
Citing the late Internal Security minister George Saitoti as among those who left a good legacy, Mr Kenneth said "good legacies form a stepping-stone of future leadership and the foundation of development in the country".
He said legacies present a standard, by which the electorate can use to evaluate incoming leadership, which in turn determines the quality of leadership the country has.
"Leaders need to be ready to serve in a way that when they leave they can have a legacy that can be emulated by others after them," he said in Kibiko, Kajiado North constituency during the funeral of Martha Nyokabi, who was a DO at Kigoro in Gatanga district.
He urged locals to choose a leader who will continue with the late Saitoti's development projects.
Mr Kenneth urged women to take up leadership positions in all areas so that they can serve with passion and bring change to the country.
"Your former Member of Parliament had left a legacy and she (Martha) was young and she had proven that leadership is not a reserve for any gender by the service that she rendered to the Gatanga people ”said Mr Kenneth.
The Late Martha succumbed to breast cancer on July 31.
Later, while speaking during the PCEA Annual Youth conference at Dagoretti High school, Mr Kenneth urged the youth to register as voters and elect worthy leaders.

“This is a good time for Kenyans to make sure that they get leaders who will help the country enhance its political, social and economic facets which are the three main aspects of Vision 2030," he said.
Mr Kenneth, who is also the Kenya National Congress presidential aspirant, engaged the youth who wanted to know how his government would tackle various social and economic problems.
The minister told the youth if he elected president he will use resources in agriculture, tourism and manufacturing to create opportunities and tackle the high unemployment rate.
The Gatanga MP said his government would be committed to making sure that every Kenya youth is assured of his security, health and education.
He also urged the youth to listen to those vying for leadership positions and evaluate them on the basis of performance and not tribalism.
