A public relations official engaged by the organisers of the high profile four-day African Leadership Convention in Mombasa has alienated journalists assigned to cover the event. Not only did the man unilaterally deny journalists accreditation passes to access the venue, but he also withdrew some of the passes he had issued them without explanation. At one point, he ordered several journalists and even NSIS officers out of the convention hall, again with no explanation. The height of the man's arrogance was when he publicly berated a journalist who was interviewing a delegate allegedly because the scribe had not sought his permission to conduct the interview or even sanctioned the list of questions!

It seems its only a matter of time before one of the most vocal defenders of Prime Minister Raila Odinga leaves the ODM camp. It seems the MP has secretly been meeting with the 'owners' of the TNA party associated with Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta. This seems to imply some divided loyalties on the MP's part.

The ethnic card is blatantly being played as far as the arithmetic behind the unfolding city politics is concerned. Recently, Prime Minister Raila Odinga promised to "ensure" one of the 17 MP slots in Nairobi are filled by a member of the Kisii community. Now Embakasi MP Ferdinand Waititu, who is running for governor, has promised that his running mate will be from the same community.  Waititu has already tapped city lawyer Evans Ondieki as a possible running mate to help him capture the estimated 200,000 plus Kisii votes in the city. This weekend, Waititu and his Makadara counterpart Mike Sonko are expected to travel to Ondieki's rural home where they will make the announcement.
