Corridors of Power
The Orange House secretariat has in the past few weeks been pursuing one of its own who is a Cabinet minister to repay a debt. The minister and his wife attended the Prime Minister Raila Odinga's Sh100,000-a-plate fund-raising dinner held last month in Nairobi. Apparently, the minister only paid for himself —maybe assuming that his better half did not have to pay as they are a couple?! Whatever the case, the party has become impatient waiting and has now decided to go after the minister to persuade him to pay.

Panic has gripped top police officers after the Public Service Commission instructed Vigilance House to furnish it with the academic qualifications of all gazetted officers. Some top cops — all of them from the rank of Superintendent and above were sent into a tizzy when they received the radio signal asking them to submit their academic papers for onward transmission to the PSC. Some of those who have been promoted without the necessary academic qualifications include a provincial police boss and a deputy provincial criminal investigations officer who reportedly used their brothers' academic certificates to get join the force.

The Kenya House in London which was touted as the one stop shop for showcasing Kenya's attractions and business opportunities during the London Olympics is a pale shadow of what it should be. Our moles tell us that most of those deployed to usher in and give interested visitors and potential investors the information are usually absent. They are said to be spending a lot of their time shopping or engaging in other such activities.

Some government officials who believe their "mheshimiwa' status and Cabinet positions guarantee them access wherever they go were humbled when they realized just how well regarded legendary Kipchoge Keino is by the International Olympics Committee. While Kipchoge enjoyed VIP status and could access any Olympic venue at will, most of the Kenyan leaders were barred from accessing the venues. Only a lucky few managed to squeeze in as part of President Kibaki's delegation. Sports minister Paul Otuoma and his assistant Kabando wa Kabando had to be listed as Kip's personal assistants to get passes to attend some events!
