BREAKING NEWS: Missing helicopters FOUND

Monday, the 13^th of August 2012 - News just in indicates that the Ugandan military has confirmed that it has found its three missing choppers that crash landed on Kenyan soil early this morning while en route to Somalia.

The choppers were reported to have crashed around the Mt Kenya area early this morning amid reports that the Kenyan military has dispatched its own choppers to find out the fate of those on board.

The latest reports now say that the Uganda military has traced all three choppers and found their crew of 28 soldiers alive and well. 

The helicopters were taking the 28 soldiers on board to Somalia to shore up the African Union’s AMISOM force that is mounting a steady assault on the Al Shaabab-held port city of Kismayu.

Kenya has its own forces on the ground under the banner of AMISOM and both it and Uganda have suffered terror attacks by Al Shaabab members and sympathizers for their incursion into the war-ravaged nation.

Helicopter CRASH in Mt Kenya

Monday August 13, 2012 - New just in indicates that two of the missing Ugandan attack helicopters which went off the radar on Sunday as they flew to Somalia, crashed in Mt Kenya.

Police spokesman Eric Kiraithe in a brief statement on Monday said: "one has been spotted in Mt Kenya and another in Meru area. We are still trying to find out finer details of the crash and the search and rescue missions are on-going."

The four choppers are said to have gone missing within Kenyan airspace as they flew to Somalia in the final battle for port of Kismayu

Kiraithe asked for more time to get detailed information on the incidents before making a full statement on the circumstances.

It is not yet clear on what happened to the helicopters. The choppers were apparently headed for Baidoa in Somalia.

A report on the number of those killed was still sketchy.

4 Uganda Air force helicopters MISSING in Mt Kenya

Monday August 13, 2012 - Reports just in indicate that four Ugandan attack helicopters went missing on Sunday as they prepared for final battle at Port Kismayu in Southern Somalia.

The news from Uganda military sources said the MI-23 disappeared, while a fourth one crash-landed in Somalia.

The new was sketchy about the territory where the helicopters went off radar. Some of the reports said it happened within the Kenyan airspace, while other reports said it was inside Somalia.

According to a credible source within the Kenya’s security team, the search on the three choppers which disappeared was concentrated near Mt Kenya region while the fourth one landed in Somalia.

Others reports indicated that, the planes may have crashed in the thickets of Mt Kenya.

The Kenya Defence Forces spokesperson, Col Cyrus Oguna, said he had not received reports of the missing attack helicopters.

“I am aware that Uganda was supposed to be taking helicopters to Mogadishu, but as to when that was supposed to happen, I do not know,” Oguna said.

This comes at a time when the long-planned onslaught on port town of Kismayu by the Kenya Defence Forces and Amisom allies before September’s deadline lapses.
