BOOM to Kenyan soldiers in SOMALIA

BOOM to Kenyan soldiers in SOMALIA

Monday August 13, 2012 - The Kenya Defence Forces who were in a combat mission in Southern Somalia received a big boost on Saturday, after European Union (EU) agreed to pay them extra 1028 US dollars (Sh 86,352) per month more to deliver the people of Somalia from the “iron fist” rule of Al Shabab militiamen.

According to an EU official, the allowances will be backdated to June 2 when a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the EU and AMISON to resolve the row over the allowances for troops serving in sector II (Gedo and Jubba).

Initially the Kenya government wanted the allowances to be backdated to January 2012 but the EU refused to give in.

“This is not a blank cheque. It is set against a matrix – a set of performance indicators,” the EU official said.

This is a big boost to Kenyans soldiers who were on the frontline rescuing the people of Somalia from the jaws of Al Shabab insurgents.

The allowances are in addition to their normal salaries.
