Eleven Kenyan church faithful died Friday after an accident involving two buses in Tanzania.
Many others from the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) Thika Women's Guild are believed injured.
A church official confirmed the number of those dead and but could not immediately put a figure on the injured.
He said 81 people were on board the buses.
The women's group was headed to the Tanzanian capital, Dar es Salaam for a retreat when the accident occurred at Chalinge, 20 kilometres from Tanga at around 5.30am Friday.
According to eyewitnesses, one of the buses apparently stalled and its occupants called for help from colleagues on the other vehicle.
Reports indicate that the bus turned back in response to the distress calls.
At the scene, a truck rammed both buses from behind.
Rescue efforts are underway.
