One hundred elders from Western province will pick a single presidential candidate for the region, Luhya Elders' Forum chairman Patrick Wangamati has said. Wangamati yesterday said that the forum will expand itself from the current 22 members to include all the 18 sub-tribes of the Luhya community to meet presidential aspirants from the region and prevail upon them to agree on one aspirant.
"We want to fund the occasion ourselves without involving the candidates so that they don't arm-twist us to support them," he added. Presidential aspirants include: Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi, Trade minister Moses Werangula, Justice Minister Eugene Wamalwa, Bifwoli Wakoli and Lugari Cyrus Jirongo who is to name his party next Sunday.
Mudavadi has said he is in talks with Eldoret North MP William Ruto for a possible union between his URP and UDF and while Wamalwa while addressing a rally in Nyanza saids he is ready to work with Prime Minister Raila Odinga. Three weeks ago, Wetangula, Wamalwa, Wakoli and Jirongo announced that they will form an alliance and work together to support one of them.
