Uhuru: Vote wisely in the next polls

Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta took his presidential campaigns to Lamu Friday where he urged residents to vote wisely in the next elections.

He urged residents to vote in leaders who have the interests of all Kenyans at heart and will ensure equity.

“If I win the elections, every county will be represented in government for there are 22 cabinet secretaries and 22 principal secretaries,” he said in Mpeketoni during a campaign rally.

The National Alliance (TNA) party leader said that the proposed Lamu Port will boost the county and help create jobs and wealth for the region and the country, noting that Lamu county, like all the rest he said has a golden opportunity to develop through devolution.

“I know Sh2 billion has been set aside to compensate those whose land will be taken for port purposes," he said.

Mr Kenyatta also said that his party nominations will be free and fair, and promised that TNA would not have any preferred candidates.

“Those who lose nominations should work with the victors so that the government and the country is stable,” he said.

And while commenting on the recent spate of terrorist acts, Mr Kenyatta said that Muslims are not to blame and likened those behind the acts as "thieves who break into people’s houses".

He took a swipe at Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni for spreading falsehoods that if he contested the presidency and it went to a runoff, he would be defeated because the country would turn against the Mt Kenya region.

Tell your party leader to come to the negotiating table, but don’t scare voters with useless propaganda. I am selling my policies as a Kenyan and not as a Kikuyu,” he told Mr Kioni.

Lamu West MP Fahim Twaha, who is the area legislator, took a swipe at those calling themselves reformists saying they must understand that the reform Kenyans need was that which would empower them economically, sentiments that were echoed by Cabinet minister Naomi Shaban.

“Mr Kenyatta’s stint at the Treasury had proved that this was his goal,” he said
