Two suspected terrorists in possession of two hand grenades have been arrested in Kitale following a swoop conducted at a local guest house, police say.
The suspects on transit to Nairobi were arrested by the police minutes before checking out of the guest house.
Area Police boss Lucas Ogara said the two had booked a room at the hotel while on transit to Nairobi with plans to conduct terrorist activities.
“We arrested the two after we were tipped by concerned members of the public,” said Mr Ogara.
“These grenades are very dangerous as they are capable of bringing down a storey building,” he added.
Police only identified the two basing on their residential areas with one said to hail from West Pokot County while his colleague hails from Rachwonyo in Nyanza province.
A manager at the hotel, Mr Protus Ochieng narrated how he became suspicious of the two suspects owing to their weird behaviours.
Mr Ochieng said one suspect had initially booked a room for 'resting' before travelling to Nairobi.

“We allocated him a room after we agreed on terms as per his request that he stays for a while,” narrated the manager.
The manager said he grew weary of the suspect when he left the hotel and returned with the second suspect and locked themselves in the room for a while.
“The second suspect kept on moving in and out of the room in a suspicious manner which worried us,” he said.
Mr Ochieng said that at around 5pm, a third man checked in and at this point he was compelled to order them to leave the room since their time had lapsed.
He said his orders were ignored by the suspects, hence, he consulted his workmate for the next course of action.
“No sooner had I walked out of the room than I saw one of them check out only to be arrested by Police Officers who had arrived in two vehicles,” he said.
The officers made their way to the room where they conducted a thorough search and recovered two grenades that had been hidden in a bed.
