This happened in Kileleshwa just like in MOVIES – Chase Bank money disappears

TUESDAY July 17th 2012 – Chase bank was broken into by thieves and sh 25 million stolen from the strong room in Kileleshwa yesterday. The security guards manning the bank along Riverside Drive also disappeared and in a bizarre twist left their uniforms behind. One guard from Wells Fargo was guarding the ATM area; the other two from Securex were securing the gate.

The Wells Fargo guard is called Erick Omayio while those from Securex security firm are called Crispus Ogot and Ivy Namwella.

A supervisor from Securex had gone to the bank at 4am and found the gate open with no security guards within the premises.

The management of Chase Bank claim that the safe had been fitted with a 24-hour system that detects smoke, vibration and motion however none of the alarms were triggered by the break-in.

The building also has an electric fence. According to the bank, only two employees have access cards to the strong room and the last door to the cash center required two code combinations, a key and a swap card. The strong room is used for keeping excess money from other banks and it is from it that the bank supplies and accepts money from other branches.

Nairobi Area police boss Anthony Kibuchi, Kilimani head of police Bernard Muli and his CID counterpart Harrison Meme visited the scene and have launched investigations.  All the security guards have not yet been reached neither by phone nor traced at their houses.

The incident brought the activities of the bank to a standstill for the better part of the morning as cash transit vehicles were turned away.
